Things I'll Do For Money

Contact

I design, create and produce. I draw, paint, take photographs; I put things together with wood and metal; I write, I make music, I perform live and in film. I consider myself a minimalist, but not in the sense of; white canvas with one small dot on it or large steel square, but a minimalist in the sense that; once I feel my message has been conveyed, and I feel that the viewer will understand it; be affected by it, then it's done.

Growing up in New Orleans, everything was old, rusty, dusty, wet, mildewed, muddy, moldy and dirty for the most part; and I like that sort of crudeness. Occasionally my work reflects that, other times, it can be very well polished. Some would say my work is simple or "folky." Some say it has a comic book nature about it. I like to think it's just raw expression. I'm not trying to dress anything up so that I know someone will buy it nor am I tryin' to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. I'm just doin' what I feel like doin'.

Influences? Any damn thing/person that crosses my senses from the second I started really observing to right now. We're all sponges of our surroundings, how each and every one of us processes those surroundings, well that's just what makes us a little more of who we are; and what makes my art, my art. What, you want a list? Alright: friends, family, strangers, cave paintings, folk art, tattoos, myths, comics, comedy, tragedy, drama, horror, romance, bad grafitti, good grafitti, poetry, real life, ideas, titles, abstracts, doodles, concepts, jokes, code words, words, phrases, innuendo, inside jokes, street art, pop culture, multi-culture, history, the present, the future, crime, politics, science...how's that?

Drawing with Paint

All right, look I'm not tryin' to fool anyone; my "paintings" are crude renderings, glorified sketches, cartoons or high end bathroom wall grafitti. If ya' don't like 'em then scroll down further, i think there's maybe a picture of a flower ya' might like or somethin'.

Famous Forgeries

This is an on going project that will continue to go on until i run out of raw materials.
A while back i worked on a wonderful movie.
From the film I acquired a huge box of 8 X 10 b&w movie and theatre promo photos from the fifties sixties.
I put my own little "thank you message" on there and "sign" them.
Look for them where ever you least expect them or order one for a friends birthday. See the Custom Orders Section
please don't ask what stars i have there's too many to go through, and not all of them are marked.

Flatulence, It's everybody's problem.

I'll never forget worshipping with you, ever.

Uh, Prozac anyone?

40 some odd Famous Forgeries
Two chairs
1 table
and a large supreme pizza
on the box was the short story below:

Pizza Party

Antonio's was a restaurant that the Family frequented.
Joey Pipes wasn't Family,
But he was connected.
He did jobs for them.
He loved Antonio's,
It was a joke with the Family though,
They knew Antonio wasn't really Italian,
They knew the autographs on the wall were all fakes,
Joey didn't know this.
Joey wasn't too smart.
One thing he was though,
Mean.
One day he found out,
He found out Antonio was really from Turkey.
He felt duped. He felt humiliated.
He felt,
Very,
Very,
Angry.
He went in there the next evening,
Right around closing time,
He ordered a couple of his favorite pies.
"Hey-a, Joe-y; 3 vegetarians with pepperoni?
You-a must-a be-a ve-ry hun-gry, eh!?"
Joey was sick to his stomach hearing that fake accent,
The tinted windows hid it all,
He beat Antonio to a pulp with a pipe,
Leaving his signature concentric circles all upon the body.
That's how he did all his jobs,
That's why they called him Joey Pipes.

Robot's Naked Eye

I never thought about taking photos, I've always been the ham in the pictures. Then comes along the camera phone. Yeah, yeah, yeah; all you purists out there sayin' this and sayin' that about digital versus real film, just remember; remember how the art world cried about how photography wasn't art? Remember how people thought movies would never replace theatre as the main form of entertainment, remember how your grandpaw fought the telephone? Whether it's Lucas Sumeras' two foot polaroids or Agnes Crotchets kodak 110 instant camera; at the end of the day, photogrphy is about one thing; pictures. Some of these were done with a Nokia 3600 .3 mp, a Nokia 6682 1.3 mp, a few were done with my new toy, a Sony DSC-W7 7mp. More to come...

Furniture

Making furniture requires a lot of space for storage, so I usually just make things on comission style basis, working one on one with a client to develop the concept and then executing a one of a kind piece. One piece was lost in part to THE STORM! which was a quijoa board dinner table, 3' X 5' with louis XV shaped legs that were made out of rebar; a rust, black paint, and etched finish top; coated with epoxy resin to keep the rust from taking over anymore.

Ok, so here's the story
I thought it'd be funny to have a coffin shaped coffee table;
this was 1994
I had some free rebar,
went got the round steel,
thought a glass top would be nice,
a friend had a sandblaster.
I got to drawin and well,
this what I ended up with.
it was a piece that ended up too fragile;
dark
and
waaaay too gothic
(for that i blame New Orleans)
so i traded it for a warm jacket since i rode a motorcylce.
*elements to note;
wreath of roses with a human heart in the center
there is a human head shape where a head would be,
with a hand clw in front of it resembling nosferatu
fleur de lis, of course
two arrows pointing down;
a symbol of death

This thing,
this was a lot of fun
An older doctor friend of mine saw a bed i made for
phil anselmo
(which i don't have pictures of;
conveiently the reader thinks to themselves)
and he said he wanted a demon bed
I had always wanted to recreate the bed from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
I combined the two ideas and came up with this:
The Baphobed
complete with etched baphomet and raging hard on
he also is wearing a gas mask
for added rock and roll weirdness
on the inside footboard
there is a silouette of a womans hind end
as if her rear was poking out from beneath the covers
while fellatiating you
it is a huge beast
easily weighing in at a quater ton
it comes apart real easy though
for some reason I strive to make things that way
easy to move, Ha Ha Ha Ha!
He gave me the biggest compliment
he collected Mario Villa furniture
and had a big ol King Sized bed in his master bedroom
and this one was in the cabana
he told me he switched them out
and used this smaller one as his master bed
INSTEAD of the King sized Mario Villa
* geek note, all the steel is braided, not randomly twisted

My furniture of late has been've been more utlitarian modern wooden pieces. I'm slowly acquiring new tools to replace lost ones after Katrina and setting up a metal and ceramic studio with fellow artist collaborator,...Carla Tome.
